History of the town
  • Historical feud of the Monaldeschi rebels of Orvieto's dominion. Of San Venanzo there's no knowledge of roman-etruscan epoch, therefore considered from medieval origins. In fact in this tormented period, numerous castles for defence prupose, most of them on the heights.
  • First written documents go back to the 1200's and are kept in the "diplomatic code of the city Orvieto" of Luigi Fumi. Yet its history follows Orvieto's vicis situdes and of the families which contended for power: the Monaldeschi and the Filippucci. Viscountey of Orvieto's commune.
  • In 1295 the nobles succeded to impede the election and therefore, the management of viscount power. Successively the viscountey of the castle passed in Corado Manaldeschi's hands and in 1415 of the nobles from Parrano. Rebelliously in 1437, it was destroyed in the same year. Successively, together with San Vito al Monte, its included in Orvieto's delegation.
