2008 Umbria Books
Five days ( and a spectacular series of previews) to read, to skim through books and to discuss about a fascinating and terrible theme regarding the dimension of suffering and pain: At the End of Pain.
Umbria Books, program
Taking place in Perugia from Wednesday 5th to Sunday 9th November, Umbria Books concentrates upon the theme of ''At the End of Pain'' with a rich playbill. Meetings, debates, book presentations, the long-awaited market-show of regional publishing trade, evening events, shows and interviews are the fixed appointments of this edition, starting with five meetings with some of the most committed intellectuals of the contemporary philosophic debate. However the vocation is always both the comparison between local and national as well as international production and the promotion of reading. The result is 108 events, of which 73 will take place in Umbria, with 383 attendances and 23 special appointments for schools. The market show at the ''Rocca Paolina'' offers 64 publisher - exhibitors.

Umbria Books, events
If the supremacy is due to Perugia, with 95 appointments that from the Fortress will stretch out across the whole town centre, the program involves six towns more: Assisi, Gualdo, Terni, Magione and above all Trevi that on 1st and 2nd November will present the preview Trevi Noir, two days dedicated to the ''black'' publishing trade, with the participation of Anglo-Saxon writers confronting with the Italian ones. Still talking about exceptional previews, on Monday 3rd the director Emir Kusturica (with his documentary film about Maradona and a great lesson on cinema) will be at the Pavone in Perugia, while Tuesday 4th will a special day dedicated to Aldo Capitini with books and collections of letters over the topical theme of pedagogy.
