La
storia della cittą
Founded by the romans with the name "piegarium" about 535 b.C., this place was dedicated to Diana and although troubled by Hannibale's and Punic wars it had a considerable demographic increment. In the following centuries its destiny and its history weren't any different from the other Umbrian towns which saw succession of barbarian invasions and medieval fights. In the Middleages it became famous for artistic glass-working. Today this working is limited to the flasks. Was feud of the Montemarte from Montegabbione and successively of the Filippesci from Orvieto (XIIIth century). Passed to the States of the Church in the XVIth century. |
