Big agricultural centre from the Xth century fenced with walls and a castle, Parrano develops in medieval times as a fortified hamlet and provided with a castle, in the political area of Orvieto. Belonged to the Orvietan families of the Filippeschi and of the Monaldeschi and from the XVth century to the Papal States. Preserves the rests of the ancient walls and the tower intact. Two gates enclose the centre, the Ripa gate (Porta Ripa) and the Piazza gate (Porta di Piazza), this last from 1693. |
