La storia della cittą

Settled during very ancient times, like all Umbrian cities, it too was invaded, razed and destroyed. In 1312, Paciano was rebuilt in another area and unassailable defensive walls were built around it. Paciano boasts of Etruscan and Roman origins. Proof of its origins can be found in the name of the city itself as well as in the funerary furnishings that have been discovered over the years, particularly along what was once the route of the ancient Aurelian Way that connected Chiusi to Perugia. Few traces are left of the early settlements. Several historical documents refer to "castrum Paciani Veteris" and all that remains of it today are a square tower (Torre d'Orlando) and some ruins of the city walls. Today Paciano, which has been named "Ideal Village" by the European Community, is a warm and peaceful town located in the center of an amphitheater of hillsides covered with olive groves, oak trees and chestnuts. Its magnificent position affords a truly unique view that sweeps across the area from Lake Trasimeno to the Val di Chiana valley and up to Mount Amiata.
