Founded in the period of decline of the Roman Empire by a governor of "Gensa Vibia" on settlement of probable roman origins. From Roman origins the colony "Fida Tuder" along the area of transit of the Tevere and Naia valleys, it knew terror of Hannibale's troops when, conqueror on the Trasimeno, they went towards the Forello groove to reach the city of Rome. The Typical structure of "Castrum" which it assumed with time passing, was destroyed, in part in 1245 and definitively in 1247, by the Tuderti soldiers. In 1323 the castle was rebuild with the name Monte Castello di Vibio. 1392 it was feud of Catalano of the Atti (on concession of Bonifacio IXth): conquered by Biordo Michelotti, successively it oscillates between Todi and the Church, which included it until 1860. |
