storia della cittą
Di chiara origine Romana come testimoniano il Ponte Fonnaia e la ca tacomba, nel terzo secolo dopo Cristo, il Vicus Martis assunse il nome di Citta Martana. E nel Vl secolo fece parte del Ducato di Spoleto. For tificato e cinto di mura nel sec. XI- XII fu distrutto da Goti e Longobardi e venne ricostruito dagli Arnolfi, che edificarono il castello di Massa. Due famiglie si disputarono il suo possesso: i Galliena-Fedri ed i Fonsi-Bonaccorsi . Nel 1266 il castello fu ampliato da Bentivegna Bentivenghi, vescovo di Todi. Nel sec. XIV-XV, fu conteso fra Todi ed il Papato e nel 1530, ospito Papa Clemente Vll; in seguito Pio IV concesse l'indipendenza da Todi e nel 1572, i Massetani si dettero uno statuto che ebbe validita fino al 1860 Of clear roman origins, how the Fonnaia bridge and the Catacomb testify. In the third century b.C. the Vicus Martis assumed the name Citta Martana. In the Vlth century it had been part of the dukedom of Spoleto, fortified and fenced with walls in the Xlth-Xllth century, destroyed by the Goths and Longobardic, it was rebuild by the Arnolfi's which build the castle of Massa. The Galliena-Bonaccorsi family disputed for its possession . In 1266, the castle was amplifyed by Bentivegna Bentivenghi, bishop of Todi . In the XlVth-XVth century it was contended by Todi and the papacy. Pope Clemente Vllth was a guest in 1530, Pope PiO Vth allowed its independence from Todi. In 1572 the Massetanis gave themselves a statute which had validity until 1860. |
