First knowledge of the existence of the castle, go back to the year 996. Fossato suffered alternate destiny, belonging ones to Gubbio, ones to Perugia. During the Napoleonic period, Fossato had been Border-land between the French Empire and the Italian Kingdom with a Custom-House in the "Osteria Nuova",today called "Osteria del Gatto". |
