Although founded by the from Ficulea from Rome emigrated Sabini in the Xth century, its name Figulus seems to derive from latin, profession of its inhabitants or from the on the commune bearing engraved fig. In the XIIIth century it was completely fenced with powerful walls. It was feud of the FiliDpeschi of Orvieto from the Xth-XIth century until 1313, then of the Monaldeschi until 1550. Devasted by frequent fights between the four villages of these new lords, enters definitively to be part of the Papal States in the second half of the XVth century. In the XVIth century, the fortifications of the hamlet have been restored, these have been destroyed with the hunting of the last of the Monaldeschi, Gentile della Vipera.
