Probable roman origins, it takes its name From the castle erectecl by Rovero, Baron of Champeaux. In 925, Rovero had a castle built, in 1341 it was devastated and subjected bv Pietro Pianciani from Spoleto. Reconquered by Cam pello in 1390, staying their domin ion until it past to the church. Had been I,art of the Dukedom of Spoleto, following their vicissitudes. Agricultural centre in the Umbra val ley, placed on the right side of the Maroggia stream. The modern part lays at the foot of the hill. " Alto", lays on a conical hill. Well known for its springs of the : source of a little river sacred to the homonym God (jupiter , pluvial divinity) whom a temple[e was dedicated, celebrated by Properzio, Silio Italico, Virgilio and Plinio the young, in modern ages painted by Corot and praised by George Byron and Giosue Carducci.
