Ancient and important agricultural hamlet from unknown origins, rose in the important Meana wood on the left bank of the Paglia river close by the border with Latium. Follows historical vicissitudes of Orvieto until the XVth century, then it was annexed to the Papal States. Allerona attained communal autonomy in 1585. From the ancient fortification only a few outlines are left of walls and two gates, the one of Fountains and the central gate. |
