La storia della cittą

Roman origins, ancient thermal holiday centre, it takes the name "Acquas Partas" for its position between the fountains of the Amerino and the Furipane in the Naia valley. First knowledge of this centre go back to 996, when it entered with Cesi and Sangemini to be part of the Arnolfe lands, (feud of the Arnolfi's for benefit by Ottone Is). Under jurisdiction of the Farla abbey in 118 and of the bishops from Todi in 1278, in 1517 it passes under direct governement of the Church. Lives the events of the fights between Guelfics and Ghibellines; suffers heavy devastations through the Lanzichenecchi (1528). Erected to Dukedon in 1588, the acquaspartan feud remains to the Cesi until the extinction of the family (1880). After many vicissitudes of decay and assignments in 1609, Prince Federico Cesi established in the ducal palace the first European Scientific Academy which gave hospitality to many famous scientists among them Galileo Galilei.
