Certainly from Roman-Etruscan origins, but first historical knowledges go back to the middleages in a documentation where they talk about Villa di Pian di Carpine, situated on the crossing of the streets between Perugia and Chiusi and the lake which were compulsory passage for all pilgrims coming and going to Rome. To assist these pilgrims, the San Giovanni to Jerusalem knight Hospitallers founded a hospice and called it Magione di Pian di Carpine. From the knights hospice's house its name extended to all surrounding places, giving life to today's Magione. Subservient to Perugia, the knights of Malta transformed for safety reasons the hospice around about the end of the 1300's into a castle, inside which in 1502, some Marchigian and Umbrian Gentleman ordered, then killed in big part at Senigallia and Città della Pieve, the conspiracy against Cesare Borgia |
