La storia della cittą

Torgiano arises on a relief on the confluence of the Tiber and Chiascio rivers. The ancient "Castrum Torscianus" was build by adjudication of Perugia in 1276 on ancient roman installation, according to a legend going back to "Dio Giano" whom the ancient tower "Torre di Giano" was dedicated. It was plundered by the army of Duke Valentino in the 1 500's. At the time of the Salt war in 1539, the territory of Torgiano had been theatre of a memorable engagement between the Pope's troops led by Pier Luigi Farnese and the baglionesche led by Ascanio della Corgna. The small town suffers french occupation in 1797 and was annexed to Deruta, then reconquered by the Papal States and then definitively re-established under the power of Perugia following its events.
