La storia della cittą

Seems that anciently it was called Cerqua. Its history is alike the neighbouring centres. First historical news go back to the 969's, when Apulien fugitives settled in its valley. In 1282 submissive to Assisi, but Pope Urbano VIth entrusts it to the Trinci's Seigniory from Foligno. With the fall of the Trincis (1439), Valtopina passed to the direct church government. At the end of the XVIIIth century it suffered French domination and in 1849 the one of the Roman Republic. It was then annexed to the Italian Kingdom in 1860. From 1927 to 1947, it had been part of the commune of Foligno, then, returns to be an autonomous commune.
