First knowledge go back to the 820's, its history is tied to the Santa Maria's Benedictine monastery in Vado Fabrica. It was independent until about the mid-XIIth century, then passes under the monastery of Nonantola. Came in fight with Perugia, it was assigned to Assisi from here directly to the Church. Castello di Valfabrica was under Assisi for the whole XVth century. It was ceded to the Church by Della Rovere. The suppressed commune of Casa Castalda was assigned to it in 1815.
