Etruscan origins, first historical documents go back to the XIVth century, even though the locality is famous since 217 b.C. when the Carthaginians of Hannibal defeated the Romans of the Flaminio consul. Suffers destiny of all umbrian centres of border ungergoing barbarian invasions, raids and destructions. Important in the fights between Perugia and Florenz and was seignory of the Lombards of Arezzo. It was part of the Church States wich instituted a costums post on the border with the Toscana; stil today the locality is called "Dogana". Tuoro has been birth place of the painter Anton Maria Garbi, whos most important work of art is the "Our Lady and Child", kept in the Umbrian National Gallery at Perugia.
